ABOUT AL QUAGLIATA

My name is Al Quagliata and I'm an actor, writer, musician and composer. I'm also the webmaster and designer of this Ernie Kovacs web site.

I've been a huge Ernie Kovacs fan since 1977, when at the age of twelve my Dad had me watch with him the "Best Of Ernie Kovacs" specials airing on PBS. Ernie’s skewed way of looking at things was strange and new to me, yet it profoundly influenced my nascent comedic tendencies.

Since Ernie Kovacs' material was rarely shown on television after a certain point in the late 1970's I sort of forgot about him for a while. As I grew older and rediscovered him, however, I came to realize that Ernie Kovacs was also a profound influence on all the TV sketch comedy shows which also influenced my comedy; namely Saturday Night Live, SCTV, Late Night (and later the Late Show) With David Letterman and The Uncle Floyd Show. Even Late Night With Conan O'Brien had a Kovacsian feel at times; I wonder though how many of the college students who watched that show and will continue to watch Conan in his new endeavors actually know who Ernie Kovacs is? I hope to help change that with this site and through the links to other Ernie Kovacs information that I've placed here.

This tribute to Ernie Kovacs is a labor of love for me and I sincerely hope you enjoy it. I am in no way affiliated with the estate of Ernie Kovacs, though I'm fairly sure they are aware of the site.

If you would like to learn more about my work visit www.alquagliata.com.

Thanks for dropping by, and as Ernie might have said:"It’s Been Real!"
