UPDATE, MARCH 4 2008: I was doing my usual Kovacsian research last week and discovered this: EDIE ADAMS 10 PART INTERVIEW WITH THE ARCHIVE OF AMERICAN TELEVISION. These were conducted by Henry Colman and taped on March 11, 1999. Its almost five hours worth of great insight about Ernie's work and about Edie's career. Enjoy! UPDATE, DECEMBER 13 2006: Sculptor Michael Keropian let me know about the website for the late Al Wein, who was the art director for many of the Kovacs shows. Michael worked for Al and is still involved with his art work. Please visit both sites; the art and sculpture you will see is fantastic! UPDATE, DECEMBER 12 2006: At the bottom of the links list on the Links page, you will see a link to a page of links to articles about Ernie from the 1950s and 1960s. That’s a lotta links! UPDATE, FRIDAY OCTOBER 20 2006: I was on www.youtube.com (as it seems many people are these days) and I found a video that someone posted of a newscast from 1986 on WKYW in Philadelphia. This is where Ernie started when it was WPTZ. Its a 50th anniversary broadcast and they interview a cameraman of Ernie’s named Bill Freeland and show some clips. Click HERE to see it. UPDATE, MONDAY OCTOBER 2 2006: It has been brought to my attention by a couple of fans of this site that David Walley, the author of the brilliant Ernie biography "The Ernie Kovacs Phile" (also known as "Nothing In Moderation, A Biography Of Ernie Kovacs"), passed away in early August, 2006 of a heart attack. He was 60 years old. David emailed me back in January of 2005 to tell me how much he enjoyed this site and of course I was thrilled as I loved his book and have read it several times. I was supposed to interview him for the site but time constraints prevented me from doing so and for this I'm deeply sorry. David Walley was a writer who's scope extended far beyond just writing a book about Ernie Kovacs. I strongly suggest you visit the LINKS page where you will find both links to his personal website, "Walley’s Witz End" (thankfully it’s still up) and to his book on amazon.com. Its so well written and looks at Ernie in an angular way (as opposed to a straight forward chronology), analyzing how he accomplished bits, showing plans for bits, prop lists, etc. I strongly suggest you pick up a copy. You can also click HERE to read some tributes from friends of David’s. David Walley was a very talented man and I wish him peace. He will be sorely missed. UPDATE, SEPTEMBER 8 2006: It seems that the page has been down for about a month or so. I apologize profusely for this; it was totally unintentional. When I first bought this domain and was constructing the site, I pointed it an existing Ernie page that I had built through Earthlink. Then, when the new site was constructed, I got a hosting contract and put the new site up on the server, getting rid of the old site. For some reason, when I renewed the domain for another few years at the beginning of August 2006, my host company's server reverted back to the old page, which no longer exists. So we're back, and once again I apologize to anyone who is upset and thought we were gone!
So what's new, you might ask? For one thing, I've posted some of my own short videos on this site. You can view them by clicking here: I've also added some new links and repaired some outdated ones. There are a couple of links to some old articles from The New York Times by a writer named John O’Connor and also a link to the University of California, Los Angeles Library’s Department of Special Collections Ernie Kovacs Page. This is called a "Finding Aid" and you can use it to get in touch with them should you want to do research on Ernie. They have a massive collection of scripts, momentos, video, letters, contracts et al.
Thanks for sticking with me, and once again, I apologize for the delay. UPDATE, JULY 5 2006: I received an email from a gent named Matt Marks who works for a label named Cantaloupe Music. They have released a CD entitled "A Ballad For Many" by clarinetist ⁄ composer Don Byron. The first six tracks were inspired by Ernie’s "Eugene". Click HERE to see some notes by the composer, read a press release and purchase the CD. You can also find links to purchase by visiting the LINKS page. UPDATE, APRIL 4 2006: Hi Folks. Please visit the LINKS page by clicking the link in the Site Menu on the left of your screen. I have an update on edieadams.org and erniekovacs.org (SEE MARCH 6 2006 BELOW) as well as some new links for you. UPDATE, MARCH 6 2006: Hi Folks. I’ve received some emails from people asking why www.erniekovacs.org ⁄ www.edieadams.org, the site run by Edie Adams (both URLS point to the same site) is down . To be honest, I don’t know. I have made some inquiries to reliable sources but no one knows the deal. I’m still maintaining a link to this site on the links pages; my suggestion is to keep checking to see if they go back up. Of course it disheartens me and other Kovacs fans to think that these pages no longer exist; hopefully they will be back up again soon. When and if they are I will let you know with an update; please don’t send me anymore emails asking about the status of the site. UPDATE, JANUARY 10 2006: I recently had the opportunity to view two episodes of "Silents Please" which Ernie hosted on ABC – TV in 1960 and 1961. Click HERE to read my synopsis ⁄ review. UPDATE, NOVEMBER 17 2005: On November 7th 2005 I added a contact form to replace the old email link. However, due to some potential security issues, we’re back to the old way. That's how Ernie would have wanted it. UPDATE, MAY 12 2005: A fan of this site, Bill Maher (I don't think its the Bill Maher from TV!), sent in a picture of an ancient, dog-eared EEFMS card for me to post. Click HERE to view it and read the accompanying email. You can als visit FAN COMMENTS PAGE to see Bill’s response once he saw the posted pics. On the links page, a link has been added to the website of writer ⁄ author David Walley who wrote "Nothing In Moderation: A Biography Of Ernie Kovacs". This book also goes under the title of "The Ernie Kovacs Phile." An email from David has also been added to the FAN COMMENTS PAGE. Al Quagliata, MAY 12 2005 |
